CD or Mech-less?

If you don't play CD's or have them on your boat, there isn't a reason to pay for a CD player. Just get a Mech-less DIN stereo. (The "Mech" comes from "CD Mechanism".) If you have CD's and you keep CD's on your boat, then you should get a DIN size marine stereo that has a CD player. The CD slot just makes it easier for water and/or dust to get inside your DIN size marine stereo and cause issues. These days, most boaters have their music on their phone, iPod, or on a thumb drive. With Bluetooth, USB, and auxiliary comiing standard on all of these stereos, you can get by with those devices.

White, Black, or Silver?

The color really doesn't matter. One could argue that black is going to get hotter than white will in intense heat and sun, but that temperature difference shouldn't effect anything because majority of the electronics are hidden. It is important to try to keep the head unit away from long, direct exposure to UV light and to try to keep your DIN size stereo as dry as possible. While they are marine grade stereos, marine grade does not mean water proof. The chassis is vented to allow for air flow and thermal management and water can get in those vents if the unit is submerged.

Do These DIN Marine Stereos Really Put Out 50 Watts of Power?

The short answer is, "No". Head units are all rated based on their peak power. The 50 watts per channel claim, for the most part, means that the radio will put out 50 watts of power when it is struck by lighting, and then it will immediately blow up and stop working. Most DIN size marine stereos put out 15-25W RMS. This is enough power to give you "Ok" sound but it isn't going to be great. If your boat goes over 30 mph, you will probably want more. If you just go out on a nice little sunset cruise, you don't really ever go fast, deck power from the head unit is fine. We recommend adding an amplifier. It just always sounds that much better. It is the difference between the speakers that are built into your TV and having a Bose home theater system. The amps aren't that expensive and 50 watts from an amp and 50 watts from a marine stereo are not even remotely close in terms of volume, sound quality, or clarity.
